Accessibility at 1129
We want the website to be as easy to use as the front door. Here is what we have done, what we know still needs work, and how to reach a person when something gets in your way.
What we have done
- The pages use real landmarks — header, navigation, main content and footer — so screen readers and keyboard users can move around them.
- Every image carries a text alternative, and the menu is published as text rather than as pictures of a menu.
- Links, buttons and form fields are real, focusable elements with visible focus styles, and every form field has a label.
- The age verification uses labelled dropdowns and a button, and can be completed with the keyboard alone.
- The countdown respects your reduced-motion setting, does not animate beyond the numbers changing, and offers a written alternative for screen readers. Without JavaScript it shows a plain sentence instead of empty numbers.
- Pages are built as plain HTML with readable headings and a sensible reading order, and they work without JavaScript.
Known limitations
- We have not completed a formal WCAG audit, so we do not claim a conformance level.
- The 21-and-over check is required by law and appears before the page content. The content itself is still in the HTML for search engines and screen readers, but the overlay is the first thing a sighted visitor meets.
- Ordering and reservations happen on Toast, class tickets on Square, and directions on Google Maps. We cannot change how those sites behave.
- Some older event flyers are images with text baked in. We publish the same information as text beside them, but the images themselves are not readable by a screen reader.
- The Chronicle is long-form. It has a chapter index at the top so you can jump to a chapter instead of scrolling through the whole paper.
